Understanding why you eat
Sugar, Carbs & Ultra Processed Foods
Do you struggle with food? Done endless diets? Joined all the weight loss clubs? Call yourself a chocoholic as a joke but know there’s truth in it? Feel like you are in a battle with your body?
It’s about the food, and it’s not about the food
You may be experiencing weight gain, health issues, mood issues, loss of confidence and fed up of trying to find clothes, underwear and shoes that fit. No matter what you do nothing seems to work. At the same time, you know there’s something deeper going on than nutrition.
Do you know why you eat? Is it Soul Hunger?
Did you know that sugar, carbs and UPFs (Ultra Processed Foods) can be addictive? We can use food like any other addiction to numb us from difficult feelings, to avoid pain, to light up the dopamine receptors in the brain just as effectively as cocaine.. Have you ever felt like you’re trying to fill up an inner emptiness?
I’ve been a sugar and chocolate addict since childhood, growing up being told that I have a sweet tooth. I used to eat sugar cubes and glucose tablets. By the time I got to my 30s I felt like I had an empty hole at the core of me and used to describe myself as a polo mint. I’ve done every slimming club, lived off shakes, done hypnosis, mindful eating, keto diets, the cabbage soup diet, EFT, Atkins etc etc. The older I got the harder it got to lose weight. I thought the weight and the food were the problem. Then I learned about food addiction and everything fell into place. I had known for years that my ‘drug’ of choice was chocolate and like other drugs I had progressed from small bars to family size because I needed more of it to get a ‘kick’.
Doing what you’ve always done in the hope of getting a different outcome is painful and pointless. A different strategy is called for. I can support you to transform your relationship with food and your relationship with yourself. Emotional eating is a form of soul hunger and no diet will solve it.
